Rawlings destroyed Ghanaian businesses – Paul Adom-Otchere charges

Host of Good Evening Ghana on Metro TV, Paul Adom Otchere, has criticized Ghanaian governments for destroying Ghanaian businesses and killing entrepreneurship in the country, singling out former President Rawlings as one who destroyed more Ghanaian businesses for no justifiable reason.

Using how Nigerian governments have supported Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man by some ranking, he lamented how the Rawlings regime for fear of being ousted from power, “smashed every Ghanaian business away.”

“Ghana needs only two Dangotes to survive. We have had about thirty of them. [But] government after government, they throw them away, starting from Rawlings. And he is the guiltiest on this matter. JJ Rawlings is the most guilty of this thing… [He] pulled down every Ghanaian business because you are afraid that they’re too strong to take you out of power,” he lashed out on his show monitored by MyNewsGh.com

He made the comments in support of those of Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, Presiding Archbishop and General Overseer of the Action Chapel International ministry, who had claimed earlier that successive governments preferred to support foreigners to succeed while pulling down fellow Ghanaians who venture into business or entrepreneurship.

Adom Otchere also used the editorial segment of the programme to advice governments to focus on holding individuals responsible for any infractions rather than destroying or collapsing the business entity involved.

He then accused some Ghanaians of seeking to pull the owner of Zoomlion Ghana Limited Joseph Siaw Adjapong down.

Following the revocation of licenses of many financial institutions by the Bank of Ghana because of alleged violations of the law, many Ghanaians have criticized the tendency of governments to destroy what is Ghanaian while helping foreigners to thrive in the business and entrepreneurship space.
